Aim

Over the next five years, the Basic Science Center for Air Key Component Transformation aims to address significant fundamental scientific issues related to air key component transformation chemistry. By integrating key technological needs of China's chemical industry, the center will develop new reactions for the direct, efficient, and mild synthesis of nitrogen/oxygen-containing compounds using air key component. This will revolutionize fundamental chemical industry processes, pushing and leading the development of international air key component transformation chemistry. Expected goals and major breakthroughs include:

1. Establish disruptive nitrogen conversion models to lead international research in the direct synthesis of nitrogen-containing organic compounds from nitrogen gas.

   1.1 Achieve catalytic processes for the direct synthesis of important nitrogen-containing organic compounds from nitrogen gas;

   1.2 Establish a new generation of heterogeneous catalyst systems for nitrogen activation/conversion.

2. Achieve full-chain oxidation reactions from alkanes to various organic oxides based on oxygen, revolutionizing fundamental industrial oxidation technology.

   2.1 Achieve highly efficient catalytic systems for the oxidation of various alcohols or aldehydes with wide applications in laboratories and industry;

   2.2 Achieve room-temperature oxygenation of low-carbon alkanes with oxygen or air.

3. Achieve nitrogen-oxygen coupling conversion.

   3.1 Initially achieve the coupling conversion of organic substrates with nitrogen and oxygen to synthesize important nitrogen oxides;

   3.2 Initially explore the synergistic mechanism of nitrogen and oxygen under mild conditions.

4. Build a world-leading research team, cultivate innovative young researchers and world-class leading scientists.
