Yichen was born in Xiamen, Fujian (福建厦门). He developed a passion for chemistry during high school, and began exploring organic methodologies as a college freshman. Yichen joined the Liu group in his junior year, where he is currently working on new catalysts and reactions in polymer science. Outside the lab, he enjoys music and playing chess.
