Yuan was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. He participated in chemistry Olympiad competitions during high school, which sparked his strong interest in the subject. In his sophomore year of university, Yuan joined the Liu group and is currently engaged in research on dynamic effects in mechanochemistry. Besides chemistry, he is an enthusiastic follower of badminton and football matches, and is an ardent fan of FC Bayern Munich.
