Dr. Jin Zhang was born in Ningxia, P. R. China, in 1969. He received his B. S. and M S. degrees in Chemistry from Lanzhou University, P. R. China, in 1992 and 1995, respectively, and his Ph. D. degree in Chemistry from Peking University and Lanzhou University, P. R. China, in 1997. He then spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Colin Robinson’s lab at University of Leeds, UK. And now he is a Professor of Chemistry of Peking University, P. R. China. Dr. Zhang has published over 100 peer reviewed journal articles. His research focuses on the controlled synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of carbon nano-materials, including: controlling the structure of single-walled carbon nanotubes via control of the synthesis process; selective synthesis of metal vs semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes; Raman spectroscopic characterization of single-walled carbon nanotubes and graphene; and the fabrication and applications of large arrays of carbon nanotubes. Dr. Zhang has received the National Science Foundation of China for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2007 and 2nd grade of the State Natural Science Award in 2008. And he now is a member of the editorial advisory board of Carbon.
