Welcome to Zou Lab

Welcome to our lab at College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University!

We aim to invent chemical and biophysical tools to probe neuronal structure and activity at high spatial and temporal resolutions. We apply these tools to investigate the underlying physical forces, chemical signaling, and biological macromolecules that give rise to neuronal functions. Examples are fluorescent sensors, engineered enzymes, custom-built microscopes and software, etc.

Our methods are drawing from a wide range of techniques, including Biophysics, Protein engineering, Molecular Biology, Chemical Synthesis, Fluorescence Microscopy and Quantitative Modeling.

Current research projects include:

  • Optical mapping of action potential waveforms with genetically-encoded voltage indicators
  • Chemical labeling technique for mapping the localization of biomolecules in living cells
  • Proximity tagging methods for profiling synaptic protein synthesis
