报告内容摘要

The Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials (ISEM) at University of Wollongong has built an interdisciplinary research capability in advanced materials and technology for energy applications including batteries, supercapacitors for energy conversion and storage, thermoelectric, magnetocaloric materials and solar cells for waste energy recovery and energy generation, superconductors for energy transmission, storage and electrical devices. 10 big innovations at 2025 predicted by Thomson Reuters include 3 in energy related areas. Wides spread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has immense potential for social, economic and environmental benefits. However, the major challenges that are impeding the widespread uptake of EV’s, including short driving range, difficulties to recharge, safety and high cost, must be addressed. The roadmap and progress for the electrode materials for Li- and Na- ion battery as well as S- Li battery will be presented. Our group has made advances in some promising electrode materials. There are 60% energy wasted in the form of heat, recovery of waste heat in steel making companies and automotive companies is one of our research focuses. This goal will be achieved by developing thermoelectric generators. Morphology-controlled bilayer TiO2 nanostructures consisting of 1D nanowire bottom arrays and 3D dendritic microsphere top layer photoanodes demonstrated the high energy conversion efficiency for TiOdye-sensitized solar cells. A breakthrough in the fabrication of wires was made from the superconductor magnesium diboride by using nano-scale doping, paving the way to practical applications, such as wind turbine generators, magnetic resonance imaging, fault current limiters, power cables, motors, energy storages, generators, magnetic separators and transformers which will lead to enormous energy and cost savings.
