• Key Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Ministry of Education was established in December 1993. In 1996, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be opened to research institutes and universities in China. This laboratory is mainly involved in the basic and applied basic research in the areas of organic chemistry, bio-organic chemistry and molecular engineering.
  • The laboratory has 21 faculty members, including 12 full professors, 5 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 2 technicians.
  • The current director is professor Jianbo Wang, the chairman of the academic committee is professor Lihe Zhang. Dr. Jiahua Chen is the academic secretary.
  • The laboratory has long been involved in the chemistry of peptides, and there have been a number of creative achievements in this area. In 1995, the project ˇ°Investigation on Water Soluble Fractions of Ginsengˇ± was awarded the first rank of Science and Technology Prize by the State Education Committee. Late professor Sheng Jin has been pioneered in the investigation of polypeptides isolated from Pollen.
  • In recent years, the young faculties in this Laboratory have made solid progresses in their research, particularly in the area of basic organic chemistry. For example, progresses have been made in selective scission and recombination of C-C bonds and carbon-hetero atom bonds, the reaction mechanism and synthetic application of metal carbenes, and fullerene chemistry. Progress has also been made in biochemical analysis and chemical biology informatics.
